What We Do

We are the world’s leading experts on using beneficial soil-derived bacteria to improve mental health and are at the forefront of studying the complex gut-brain relationship.

Our Mission

Through 20 years of research, we have uncovered the hidden world of how beneficial bacteria, which humans have co-evolved with for millions of years, influences happiness and the human condition. Through a rigorous scientific process, we are identifying novel bacteria that regulate the immune system, reduce inflammation, and improve quality of life. These bacteria can be part of an integrative approach to treating complex diseases by returning humans to a baseline existence.

These studies help us understand how the body communicates with the brain and why a healthy immune system is important for maintaining mental health. They also leave us wondering if we shouldn't all be spending more time playing in the dirt.

What We’ve Achieved

  • Demonstrated the anti-inflammatory effects of Mycobacteria vaccae

  • Shown anti-anxiety like behavioral changes as a result of treatment with Mycobacteria vaccae

  • Isolated three novel strains of soil-derived Mycobacteria

  • Raised nearly $1,000,000 in government grants for exploration and isolation of novel Mycobacteria
